The current focus of the College is on the new “Equality Act.”

According ACCT quoting “Achieving the Dream Equity Statement” at https://www.achievingthedream.org and “Equity and Empowerment Lens” at https://multco.us/, equity is grounded in the principle of fairness.  In higher education, equity refers to ensuring that each student receives what they need to be successful through the intentional design of the college experience. Specifically, equity is a set of principles, reflective questions, and processes that focus at individual, institutional, and system levels by deconstructing what is not working around equity; reconstructing and supporting what is working; shifting the way we make decisions and think about this work; and healing and transforming our structures, our environments, and ourselves.

To this end, the cCc strategies will include:

1.    Review and redraft or edit of the college’s mission and vision statements and core values.

2.    Development, dissemination, and publication on the college website of a diversity, equity, and inclusion value statement from the board

3.    Redesign the college hiring process including all levels of the organization

4.    Provide diversity training specifically for search committees, firms, and hiring managers.

5.    Develop broad policies about eliminating barriers to access, success, and completion in all college departments and programs, including:

a.    Grants to help students short of funds to graduate

b.    Addressing food and housing insecurity

c.     Using Open Education Resources (OER) to reduce cost of books and supplies

d.    Partnering with parents to provide educational support

e.    Improving the FAFSA process including an earlier understanding that loans must be “paid back.”

f.      Flexible curricular offerings
